A novel based on the cult science fiction comedy plays and audio series, by award-winning genre author Steve Jordan (The Good Death Guide, Doctor Who).
The year is 2288. Two complete strangers wake up on a tiny shuttle in the middle of deep space. Tyler, a sarcastic, over-confident entrepreneur, finds himself trapped with Gary, an insufferably chirpy conman. The Syndicate has sentenced them both to death - they have one hour before their shuttle plunges nose-first into the asteroid belt. Can they work together to survive? Are they doomed to irritate each other into oblivion? Death is only the beginning...
Join Tyler and Gary on an epic adventure across the solar system - treasure hunting on Proteus, taking on an evil empire, and a series of perilous, ludicrous heists.
The future of the galaxy is at stake - will they screw it up like everything else?
Monsters are real. In the husk of an abandoned city, ghosts haunt the streets, dinosaurs hunt in the parks and mythical creatures stalk the neighborhood. The only human survivors have been forced back to an encampment on the outskirts.
Kate remembers the city before the monsters appeared, and is prepared to fight to reclaim it from them.
Zing, the youngest, has only ever known a life behind the walls of the encampment - but that's about to change.
Tyler and Gary, two petty criminals on the run, realise they've landed in hot water when their spacecraft crashes nearby. The monsters are getting more aggressive, and supplies are dwindling.
The Future Boys Novel is now available to pre-order, with a release date of December 16th! A paperback version will also be released early next year, along with a new paperback version of Empire of Monsters - which effectively serves as a sequel to The Future Boys, even though it was released first.
Hope you buy it, hope you like it - thanks! Click the amazon logo below.
I’m currently working on a novel, which will be released later this year for Kindle and also available in paperback, which is a personal first for me. Hopefully no later than September. It will be called... yep, you guessed it... The Future Boys.
It will tell the story of the entire Future Boys saga (except Empire of Monsters, which is definitely its own thing). I’m re-telling the three original theatre productions - Dead Static, Pilgrim Shadow and King Chaos - plus the two audio episodes, and the stories of what would have been the other four episodes of the audio series - to make one glorious package.
So it’s effectively 6 hours of script, fleshed out into a novel with some extra bits to bring it all together, comprised of essentially two mini-books – the story of the plays, and the story of the audio series. This is something I’ve thought about for a while, but as the funding for the rest of the audio series didn’t materialize, I’ve gone for what I feel is the best option to tell the stories. It would be great to do an audio book of it too with the audio series cast at some point, time allowing.
The poster for what would have been the audio series (pictured, by Will Brooks) will become the cover of the new book. Nothing will be omitted form the original scripts - only added to, so hopefully there will be plenty of lols for you to enjoy, as well as the epic conclusion of the series.
'Sylvester McCoy’s calculating and comedic Seventh Doctor returns with two companions from the Virgin Books’ New Adventures of Doctor Who: Yasmin Bannerman plays Roz Forrester and Travis Oliver plays Chris Cwej.'
This title was released in November 2018. It will be exclusively available to buy from the BF website until December 31st 2018, and on general sale after this date.
You'll find an interview with myself and the other Seventh Doctor New Adventures writers in this month's Vortex Magazine. It's FREE, so what are you waiting for!

From bigfinish.com, news of my Doctor Who story...
Coming out this November, Sylvester McCoy’s calculating and comic Seventh Doctorreturns with two companions from the Virgin Books’ New Adventures of Doctor Who: Yasmin Bannerman plays Roz Forrester and Travis Oliver plays Chris Cwej in Doctor Who – Seventh Doctor: The New Adventures.
The Virgin Books’ New Adventures of Doctor Who took the reigns of Doctor Who after the television series finished after its 26th season back in 1989. The novels took a darker, deeper approach to Doctor Who, using longer storylines and ideas that wouldn’t have made it to the television screen.
This new box set includes four stories:
1. The Trial of a Time Machine by Andy Lane 2. Vanguard by Steve Jordan 3. The Jabari Countdown by Alan Flanagan 4. The Dread of Night by Tim Foley
Producer and director Scott Handcock explains: “As a fan who grew up in the era of the New Adventures novels, I was thrilled when David Richardson offered me the opportunity to tackle a new box set featuring the Seventh Doctor, Roz Forrester and Chris Cwej. The feedback for the Novel Adaptations was fantastic, and getting the chance to tell completely new stories with this TARDIS team has been a joy!
“We’ve tried to make the most of the box set format, so we have four original hour-long stories reuniting the Doctor, Roz and Chris – and, of course, Sylvester, Yasmin and Travis, who struck up such a brilliant rapport on the adaptations. The four new tales tackle very different genres, in very different settings and times, with Chris and Roz creator Andy Lane kicking off the box set with his story, The Trial of a Time Machine. There really is something for everyone!”
The New Adventures will be released in November 2018, available as a CD box set for £23 or on download at £20 from www.bigfinish.com

This plug is 8 months late, but better late than never! Myself and my 'Film Wars' co-host Gareth Alexander appear in Kim Justice's Christmas Special. Kim is the queen of video game documentary excellence, so if you enjoy such things - do check out her Youtube channel - it's superb.
I'm delighted to say that I have been commissioned by Big Finish Productions to write a Doctor Who audio drama. Big Finish are perhaps best known for their Doctor Who ranges and various spin-offs, but also produce audio drama featuring Sherlock Holmes, Blake's 7, 2000 AD, among others. It's a real thrill to be working with them - I've been a fan of their excellent output for many years.
I can't divulge any of the details of the story at this point - but as you can probably imagine, I'm pretty darn excited. I'll tell you more as soon as I am able.
Following a successful Kickstarter campaign at the beginning of 2017, the first 2 episodes of 'The Future Boys' will be released on Saturday 24th June 2017 via iTunes and SoundCloud.
Having spent two years apart and taken up new identities, Tyler and Gary are unwittingly brought back together by Rik Sheringham, a galaxy-renowned treasure hunter, celebrity and old school friend/enemy of Tyler's. Sheringham's deal is simple - Tyler and Gary must undergo a series of daring and dangerous heists on his behalf, or be handed over to the authorities and forced to face the death sentence that has been looming over their heads for years. Can Tyler and Gary re-unite and stay on the same page long enough to complete the job? Or are they doomed to fail? Either way, there seems to be more to the jobs than a simple robbery, and Sheringham's intentions may not be all they seem...
So thrilled with the following review for 'Claws', I just had to share it.
'When I reached this story title I was expecting some kind of Cornish sea-monster, but oh boy was I wrong. For me this is the stand-out story of the bunch because it pushed every one of my buttons. It’s setting is an amusement arcade in Newquay. I’ve spent way too much time (and money) in Newquay’s arcades and Steve Jordan captured the essence of them as if he was a local. The characters, location and details are trapped in amber from my time there and the horror is interwoven with such humour that I laughed out loud in places whilst being suitably horrified in others. It’s not trying to be big and clever but achieves both. Loved it.'
You can read the entire review by Joe X Young, which covers all of the excellent stories from Terror Tales of Cornwall in full, here on Ginger Nuts of Horror.
I'm very pleased to have a short story in the latest edition in the Terror Tales series, edited by Paul Finch. Hugely grateful to Paul for giving me the opportunity to be in print again. The book is available on amazon for Kindle, and paperback.
Cornwall, England’s most scenic county: windswept moors, rugged cliffs and wild, foaming seas. But smugglers and wreckers once haunted its hidden coves, mermaid myths abound, pixie lore lingers, henges signal a pagan past, and fanged beasts stalk the ancient, overgrown lanes …
The serpent woman of Pengersick
The screaming demon of Land’s End
The nightmare masquerade at Padstow
The feathered horror of Mawnan
The terrible voice at St. Agnes
The ritual slaughter at Crantock
The hoof-footed fetch of Bodmin Moor
And many more chilling tales by Mark Morris, Ray Cluley, Reggie Oliver, Sarah Singleton, Mark Samuels, Thana Niveau and other award-winning masters and mistresses of the macabre.
84 backers pledged £4,148 to help bring our new science fiction sitcom to life! Here's our project update from the Kickstarter page:
Hi everyone! Just a quick message to say – we've made it! With just under 3 days to go, we've just hit our £4000 funding goal. Incredible. The generosity and enthusiasm of our backers has been genuinely unbelievable - there are not enough words to show our gratitude, but we'll be throwing as many of them as we can your way in the coming days! On behalf of myself, Ellen, Cliff, Rob, Emma & Adam - THANK YOU.
Tyler and Gary’s galactic expedition of thievery and swearing is GO. They’ll be proper chuffed with themselves.'
2 episodes of the show will be recording in late March, with a view to release the episodes commercially as soon as humanly possible. Kickstarter pledgers can expect all their rewards by the end of May 2017!
Today we launch our very first Kickstarter campaign to fund the live recording and digital release of 2 episodes of 'The Future Boys', a new science fiction audio sitcom.
The goal of this Kickstarter project is to fund the recording of two 30-minute audio episodes in front of a live audience in a theatre in London, and to release these episodes online to our backers. Depending on how this goes, we hope to make the rest of the series one day - this is first step on what we hope will be a much longer adventure for the Future Boys…

Obviously most people reading this won't have seen Tyler and Gary's theatre exploits - never fear! The audio series will be comprised of brand new stand-alone adventures, meaning you will not need to have seen their previous stories to enjoy the show.
For those of you who are already familiar with Tyler and Gary and have attended the live shows - thank you so much for your support, it really means the world to us, and we hope you'll continue to support this new project and help us get the Future Boys out there. It’s all-new material, so if you want to know what the guys have been up to since you last saw them - now’s your chance!
We’re thrilled to have such a wonderful team of professionals at the ready – but we need your support to help us raise the funds required to make these episodes a reality.
Every person who backs this project will be able to download the first two episodes of the series. You will also have the opportunity to purchase rewards packages that include tickets to the live recording, signed posters, t-shirts and other cool stuff! Most of which features the artwork of renowned genre artist Chris Moore (www.chrismooreillustration.co.uk), who designed our fantastic poster.
For those of you interesting in attending the recording, we have 1 ticket and 2 ticket rewards available. The show will be recorded on a single evening, Thursday March 30th at 7.15pm at the Leicester Square Theatre in London’s West End. Make sure you can attend that date and location before pledging for one of the ticket rewards – and remember that travel and accommodation are NOT included. If you can’t make it – never fear. There’s a long list of other goodies that we can send straight to your door, shipping worldwide. Please note, these tickets will NOT be on sale anywhere else, they're only available through this Kickstarter campaign.
We expect to deliver on ALL of our rewards no later than the end of May 2017, including the episodes themselves. If you have any questions or want to get in touch about your rewards of the show itself – just drop us an email and we’ll reply within 24 hours.
REVIEWS
Comedy is incredibly subjective – how on earth will you know if you’ll like the series? Well, you can find some clips of the live shows in our video below, but don’t just take our word for it that the show will be funny! Here's some selected praise from the plays - Dead Static (2012), Pilgrim Shadow (2013/4), and King Chaos (2015).
'Bad Bat have established themselves as seriously hot talent in sci-fi comedy and will surely continue to capitalise on that well-earned reputation.' - Views from the Gods, reviewing King Chaos (★★★★).
'The makings of a classic series.' – Snipe London, reviewing Dead Static.
'Writer, producer and director, Steve Jordan has created a wonderfully silly and comic sci-fi universe that, with all its nods and winks to other works, stands very much on its own two feet.' - Camden Fringe Voyeur, reviewing King Chaos.
'The entire hour of the play is joke after joke so there is very little pause between laughs... would make a great television show (Blackadder meets Dr Who) with its fun-filled adventures...' - A Younger Theatre, reviewing King Chaos.
'Any time spent with these characters is a joy.' - Views from the Gods, reviewing Pilgrim Shadow (★★★★).
Heeey! I have only posted 3 times this year! So, to re-assure the planet that I am still here and determined to do things, here's a statement of intent for 2017. 2016 is practically a write-off creativity-wise as there are some very big real life events occuring that mean I can't be as active with my writing career as usual and retain sanity.
So, in 2017 you can expect:
A Future Boys audio series Kickstarter project first, as mentioned back in January. This should run in Feb 17, and record in March if successful. Previously mentioned 'real life events' necessitated this being pushed back. It's a big project, my biggest to date and I want to be able to devote the time needed to give it a chance at success. I'm very anxious to get started on this proper. The writing is 75% done.
A new play. I have two drafted, but I would imagine only one will arrive next year, in the summer. I loved doing Global Mega Inc at the Leicester Square Theatre this year so I hope to return their to debut this 'exciting new material' - you've got to say that haven't you.
A novel. The work has started - it's more than just an idea now, but still very early days. I'm taking the rather unusual route of writing it as a screenplay first to get the structure and plot down, and will expand later. I'm basically throwing everything I learned during my time at University out of the window and writing something that I, not your typical genre reader, would enjoy reading. As such, the form will be somewhat atypical, but hopefully not in a hugely detrimental way.
I, reader, will deliver. I hope you'll throw this shit some attention when it flies (especially the Kickstarter).
This week saw the release of the first episode of a new entertainment podcast about films, presented by Gareth Alexander (film critic for a national UK newspaper) and me. Each week we pick a film to have an argument about, it's great fun.
